Sunny Sundays in the Englischer Garten

Sundays in Munich can be very quiet; all shops, bars and restaurants are closed! So, I guess most people head to a park or if the weather is nice, a Biergarten. I've always heard great things about Munich's Englischer Garten, which apparently is based on London's Hyde Park. Luckily, this garden was very close to my apartment so I thought it would be silly not to go!

When I finally got there, I found vast green areas, woodland, streams and lots of people :) As I walked further a field I was drawn by the sounds of a Bavarian band which we're playing from the top of the Chinese tower (below). It was nice to see so many people enjoying the sunshine and some giant beers (of course!)

Revolutionary Architecture of its time- Olympic Park, Munich

Last Sunday I took a trip to see the sights of Munich's Olympic Park and Stadium, which was built in 1972 and housed the Olympic Games the same year. The post-war metal structures were seen as revolutionary architecture of its time, in contrast to Germany's traditional buildings. The park's unconventional design, can also be viewed as symbol of societal change from that which brought Hitler to power.

As soon as you step off the U-Bahn, you are greeted with impressive sights of the park's tent like architecture. Within the 'tents' (this word doesn't give it justice!) there is an Olympic sized swimming pool, a seasonal ice rink, student and residential districts. And of course the Olympic stadium, which unfortunately was closed for viewing, so we just managed a quick peak through the gates!

The weather has been glorious for the last few weeks and so it is the perfect opportunity to take a walk in one of Munich's many places of natural beauty. At the Olympic park, we grabbed a locally brewed beer and sat by the Lake to do some people watching. After a stroll, fellow Stylighters Rebecca and Lauren and I, took a pedalo around the lake! Very Notebook-esque, we got to grips with Lauren's erratic steering style and had a covert race with boating peers! Finishing off the boat trip, the sun was setting, which created some truly scenic views across the lake.

Here are some very retro looking photos from the Olympics games in 1972...

Wonderful finds

Pit stop in Zara

Since my new job in Munich, involves spending most of the time looking at glamourous fashion bloggers who wear all the latest trends, I thought it was time to hit the shops! My favourite fashion haunt is Zara, as I think their clothes are sophisticated, have a feel of high quality and are are actually good value for money!

THE colour of the season is pastel, particularly candy pink and blue. It's so popular and can be seen all across the high street and online. So, I went to Zara and straight away felt excitable as I was faced with the new season spring collection! It's so nice to have colour back in the shops and it's my confirmation that winter is over, which is great news! I picked up some tailored black trousers and they were a perfect fit, which is quite rare for me. Heading out of the shop and feeling pretty smug about my new purchase, I was drawn to a pastel blue blazer and immediately had to try it on! Unfortunately for my bank balance, it was a great fit and so it came home with me. I've worn it a few times now and every time it puts me in the mood for summer!
